The opening of the MDR Musiksommer 2014 offered a special challenge to the hall’s sound system: orchestra, big band and choir as well as soloists had to be balanced for a demanding audience in the Messehalle Erfurt, Germany.

In August 2013, a group of German musicians traveled to Kabul. In the Queen’s Palace of Bagh-e Babur, they played together with the Afghan masters in front of more than 600 guests. The concert showed both the cultural richness of the Afghan musical tradition and the result of their cooperation across cultural borders.
With the support of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and RBB Kulturradio, the concert was broadcast worldwide in a live audio and video stream.
